Elaine is a lifelong painter, textile artist and crafter as well as a professional writer, editor, author and educator who specialized in organic foods and related issues for many years.
In 2008, Elaine authored The International Market for Sustainable and Organic Apparel, a comprehensive market study published by Packaged Facts. She is the author of The Organic Foods Sourcebook, a consumer guide to the benefits of organic food and farming and the meaning of the organic label, published in 2001 by Contemporary Books.
Elaine's articles have appeared in Yoga Journal, Ms., and many other publications. She has also written marketing and communications materials for many of the most successful organizations and companies in organic and natural living.
From August, 2005, to August, 2007, Elaine was the organic program director and director of organic alliances and strategic initiatives at New Hope Natural Media, a publisher of trade magazines and producer of trade shows. In that capacity, she developed and co-chaired (with the Organic Farming Research Foundation) the inaugural Organic Summit, a leadership conference for the organic industry.
Elaine has also been a senior editor at the LOHAS Journal, an editor at Natural Foods Merchandiser, communications director for Mothers & Others for a Livable Planet, public relations director for Alfalfa's Markets, assistant producer at e-town, and curatorial assistant at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
Elaine earned her degree in fine arts (painting, printmaking and art history) from Colorado College, and has been passionate about textiles and fabric throughout her life. She has worked as a costume painter and dyer for the Denver Center Theatre Company and a silk painting assistant to designer Connie Romweber; she worked at the Weaving Workshop/Textile Arts Center in Chicago; and has edited several craft books for Interweave Press and Lark Books.
Elaine has been a serious student of yoga and meditation since 1993 and is also trained in Bach Flower Remedy practice. She lives outside of Boulder, Colo., and has enjoyed living everywhere from her Canadian birthplace to New York City and many places in between, as well as traveling in the U.S. and abroad.
