I made a small correction to an old post and the new Typepad republished it as a new post --- sorry. I deleted the repeated version. The original post is here.
Meanwhile, I got an e-mail from the wonderful people at Maiwa about a very unfortunate situation there. They had scheduled an Indian artisan leader and speaker, and he was refused a visa by the Canadian government. Read her post here. This visa refusal seems utterly absurd, and sad for those of us who love textiles, craft, and culture.

Very sad. I know that my husband is inexcusably interrogated every time he is required to go to Canada on business but I had hoped they would treat artisans better.

wow- had no idea Canada was so unfriendly- shows you what i (don't) know. guess my chances at ever doing a show up there are pretty slim. my credentials are pale in contrast to Mr. Ashoke Chatterjee's.
hey-elaine- do your blog posts show up on your FB feed?

Fortunately, Glennis, you dont need a visa to enter Canada! This is a terribly unfortunate incident, but I dont think it represents the majority of Canadians. It may say something about modern societys lack of respect for textile traditions and crafts, though.
